In 2002, Mark Faulkner was the head of a forensic toxicology lab testing for performance enhancing drugs. He routinely heard from athletes that they needed something safe, legal, and effective to help them perform optimally. Mark went on to found Vireo Systems to study and test amino acid conjugations to fill this need.
In 2003, Vireo made a fortuitous acid catalyst miscalculation on an amino acids batch which resulted in the molecule that would become Creatine HCl (CON-CRĒT®).
